My classes focus on free expression through painting, portrait work, drawing, collage and mixed media. The first five-to-ten minutes of class are spent introducing an artist, discussing his or her technique and their importance in art history. Then, we jump right in and start painting or project work. I make suggestions rather than direct. I want my students to have a different art experience with me, a less structured environment than perhaps they are used to in their elementary school art program.
I encourage and help them develop their own unique style, while incorporating the fundamentals of painting and drawing they learn in school. We really have a great time, and the children are happy and that is my underlining goal - art appreciation in themselves and each other. When weather permits, I hold classes outside, which the children love!
Lessons:
I run 3 six-to-ten-week sessions @ $65 an hour. I find it is a great way for the children to unwind after a long day of school and prior to homework time. |
